Rio Grande Valley

Hail damage roof repair and replacement in the Rio Grande Valley.

Hail can ruin a roof in a few minutes and leave damage nobody can see from the ground. Texas Contractors, Inc. inspects hail damaged roofs across the Valley, documents the damage with photos and drone video, and repairs or replaces the roof, including insurance claim jobs.

No deposit. You pay when the job is done.

What hail does to a roof.

A hailstone does not have to punch a hole to cause damage. It can bruise a shingle, which leaves a soft spot that breaks down over time. It can crack the shingle or knock off the granules that protect it from the sun. It can dent roof vents, flashing, and gutters. Most of this damage cannot be seen from the ground, and a hail damaged roof often looks fine until it starts leaking months later.

  • Soft, bruised spots in the shingles
  • Cracked or broken shingles
  • Granules washed into the gutters or down the downspouts
  • Dents in vents, flashing, and gutters
  • New leaks after a storm

Hail in the Valley.

The Valley gets real hail. On May 8, 2025, public reports sent to storm trackers put hail up to about 3 inches in McAllen, with a 2 inch stone measured near Dove Avenue and McColl Road. In April 2023, a public report described baseball size hail in Mission. Edinburg and the rest of the Mid Valley have been hit more than once. After any hail storm, a free inspection is the fastest way to know where the roof stands.

Repair or replace after hail?

Not every hail damaged roof needs to be replaced. A repair can make sense when the damage is in one area and the roof still has plenty of life left. A full replacement usually makes more sense when the bruising is spread across the roof, the roof is already older, the old shingle color is no longer made and a repair would not match, or the damage has reached the decking. We show the homeowner what we find, with photos, and explain which way makes sense before anything is decided.

How a hail claim job works with us.

  1. Free inspection. We inspect the roof, which takes about an hour, and document the damage with photos and drone video. Copies are available on request.
  2. The homeowner files the claim. The homeowner contacts the insurance company and opens the claim.
  3. The adjuster visit. With a signed contract and the homeowner's agreement, we meet the adjuster at the home to show the roof damage and talk through the repair.
  4. The deductible. The homeowner pays the deductible. Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive, rebate, or pay it.
  5. The work. Once the claim is approved, the crew tears off the old roof and installs the new one. If rotten decking turns up after the tear off, we show the homeowner, replace it, and send an addendum to the insurance company for the added work.
  6. Permits and paperwork. Permit and engineer fees can be paid by the homeowner directly or included by us, whichever the homeowner prefers. In Cameron County, we work with an engineer who registers windstorm jobs with the Texas Department of Insurance. TDI Form PC068 is filled out when the insurance company requires it.
  7. Payment. No deposit. The homeowner pays us once the insurance check is cashed. If the check has to go through the mortgage company, that usually takes 1 to 2 weeks after the homeowner mails it.

For the full claim process, see the storm damage and insurance guide.

How the new roof goes on.

A new roof from us starts with a full tear off down to the decking. Damaged decking is replaced, then synthetic underlayment goes down, fastened with 1 inch Stinger cap nails instead of plastic caps, so it holds up better in Valley wind. On a complete CertainTeed system, we include and register a CertainTeed SureStart PLUS 3 Star warranty at no extra charge, with restrictions set by CertainTeed.

Our roofing work also comes with a written workmanship warranty from Texas Contractors, Inc.

Upgrade to Class 4 while the roof is open.

If the roof is being replaced after hail anyway, it is the right time to think about Class 4 impact resistant shingles. We install CertainTeed Landmark ClimateFlex, rated UL 2218 Class 4. Some insurance companies give a discount for Class 4 roofs. We can't promise a discount, so check with the insurance agent before the work starts.

Hail jobs on large homes in Central Texas.

After a hail storm hit Liberty Hill, Texas, in 2021, we replaced the roofs on four large homes valued at about $800,000 on average, each roof about 80 squares, around 320 squares in all. Each home got a full tear off and a complete Owens Corning roof system, with every part that could come from Owens Corning coming from Owens Corning:

  • Owens Corning Duration shingles
  • Owens Corning RIZERidge hip and ridge shingles
  • Owens Corning RhinoRoof U20 synthetic underlayment
  • Owens Corning starter shingles
  • Owens Corning VentSure 4 foot ridge vent

Big, complex roofs on high value homes leave no room for shortcuts. Building every roof as one complete system, from the deck to the ridge, is the same approach we bring to every hail job in the Valley. Today, we install CertainTeed roof systems as a CertainTeed ShingleMaster Certified Installer.

What homeowners say.

★★★★★

I had my roof installed by Texas Contractors, Inc in March of 2021. 5 years later and I don't have a single complaint. I haven't had a need to replace a single shingle or had any leaks. Now, we haven't had a direct hit but since then we were affected by Hurricanes Nicholas and Baryl. We've also been affected by Tropical Storms Harold and Alberto. Not a single problem. Thank you Texas Contractors for the phenomenal job and relief you provided when I needed it. I 100% recommend this company for your roofing needs. Oh, and to let everyone know, I had Owens Corning Duration, Onyx Black Shingles installed. The price was a little elevated at the time due to COVID-19 inflation but the work was worth every penny. Peace of mind makes it worth it.

Amazing transformation completed by Texas Contractors. This project was handled as an insurance claim, requiring payment of only the deductible. Roofing specialist Jacob Amar managed all paperwork and oversaw every detail with exceptional professionalism. Truly an outstanding company.

We had a great experience with Texas Contractors. I'm opening a business in McAllen, TX and I needed a custom fence that our insurance company accepted. Enrique provided great communication on the time frame, showed up when he said they would and made sure I knew what was happening through this process. They even kept my site clean during the process. These days I feel it is difficult to find companies that are professional in their practices. He even helped me figure out financing for this project. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking to build a quality fence.

Frequently asked questions.

How do I know if hail damaged my roof?

Most hail damage cannot be seen from the ground. Signs include granules in the gutters, dents in vents or gutters, and new leaks after a storm. A free inspection from us takes about an hour and includes photos and drone video.

Will insurance pay for hail damage?

It depends on the policy and the damage. Many homeowner policies cover hail, but the insurance company decides what is covered. The homeowner pays the deductible.

Can you meet the adjuster?

Yes. With a signed contract and the homeowner's agreement, we meet the adjuster at the home to show the roof damage and talk through the repair.

Will you pay or waive my deductible?

No. Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive, rebate, or pay a deductible. The homeowner pays it.

Should I repair or replace my roof after hail?

It depends on how widespread the damage is, how old the roof is, and whether a repair would match. We show the homeowner what we find and explain both options.

What if the crew finds rotten decking?

We show the homeowner, replace it, and send an addendum to the insurance company for the added work.

When do I pay?

No deposit. On insurance jobs, the homeowner pays once the insurance check is cashed. If the check goes through the mortgage company, that usually takes 1 to 2 weeks after it is mailed.

Do you offer temporary roof tarping?

Yes. We offer temporary roof tarping during business hours, first come, first served, depending on crew availability, weather permitting, and only when conditions are safe. Service times aren't guaranteed, and we don't send crews at night. Leave a request through Oso or call (956) 221-6300, and Henry or Jacob will confirm availability with you.

Can you handle a large or high end home?

Yes. After a hail storm in Liberty Hill, Texas, in 2021, we replaced the roofs on four large homes valued at about $800,000 on average, each about 80 squares, with complete Owens Corning roof systems.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing through third party lenders, HFS Financial and Synchrony. Checking if you prequalify is free, takes a couple of minutes, and uses a soft credit check, so it does not affect your credit score. Financing is subject to credit approval. The lender decides approval, rates, and terms based on your credit and other factors, and we do not set or guarantee them. Cash or financed, no deposit is needed, and you pay nothing until the job is done and you are satisfied.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes. We accept all major credit cards. A flat 1.75% card fee is added to credit card payments to cover processing costs. There is no fee for cash, check, or debit card. Card payments are made when the job is done, and no deposit is needed.
